It’s Superhero Loneliness Epidemic that permeates the Spider-Man film. Marvel Studios are attempting to get in touch with their feelings this phase of their movie production. “Thunderbolts” was about depression, “Spider-Man Brand New Day” is about loneliness. Marvel Studios want to project that their superheroes do not need therapy, they just need each other.  Yes, surprise, being a superhero there comes a time or moment to confront or embrace loneliness. This isn’t new ground to be covered, it’s just getting a 2026 interpretation to it. but it is something that  must be accepted- it’s only lonely. Even when you are on a team or some kind of family or friends-Superhero business is lonely.  Although the theme is cemented, the story is paper thin and not much to say other than it’s hard to have friends and be a superhero. The story also doesn’t feel like a Spider-Man story. It’s a Marvel story.  Because the main antagonist isn’t any of the array of villains that Spider-Man has- And he has thousands to choose from.

Action and stunts are the driving force behind while the story takes the backseat. And the stunts are terrific and creative, but what has drawn people and many loyal fans to Spider-Man is his relatable humanity and story driven plot. Tom Holland has proved again he is right to play Peter Parker. A mixture of toughness, vitality, youthfulness and humanity. The superhero that can never catch a break- and is exhausted. Yeah we know. We seen this in all superhero films. It comes down to the main problem of the film. What is the point of all of it other than merely a series of cause and effects. Action results in action. There is nothing new conveying with a superhero story, especially a Spider-Man story.

It was the right decision to have The Punisher is in this. It’s the kind of contrast of character that is needed in a Spider-Man film. A character that embraces the isolation of superheroism because he is in fact an- anti-superhero. Other notable appearances like having The Hulk felt like a paper-clip add to spice up the story, a story that again, is not the main drive for the film. A better decision in my opinion would be Daredevil instead of The Hulk.  

The whole film feels like there was a piece missing from it. It’s like completing a wonderful puzzle and seeing a few pieces missing.  Adding another superhero appearance isn’t the answer as well as elaborate stunts to fill the void of a compelling script. But still again- the action and stunt are terrific. 

Overall this is a mixed bag. The tone and themes are there as well as the stunts and action. Tom Holland and the rest of the cast are worth going to see, all are great in this. There just isn’t anything to say other than being a superhero is lonely, exhausting and everyone needs friends.  Where does Spider-Man go after this? Hopefully takes on one of his classic villains again and maybe one that hasn’t had screen time.  8/10
